Main responsibilities

Mark Burgess was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Aviva Investors Holdings Limited and Aviva Investors Global Services Limited in December 2023. In addition, Mark is also Chair of the Aviva Investors Remuneration and Nomination Committee, as well as a member of the Aviva Investors Audit, and Risk Committees. 

Experience and qualifications

Mark Burgess has over 30 years of senior fund management experience and was most recently Chief Investment Officer (CIO) EMEA and Deputy Global CIO for Columbia Threadneedle Investments, a position he held for 9 years. Prior to that he was Head of Equities for LGIM which at the time was the largest owner of UK equities, and a firm where he also headed up the Corporate Governance effort. He started his career as UK equity fund manager and held senior roles in this capacity with Deutsche Asset Management in their UK pension fund business.

Mark was a founding board member of the Investor Forum and Chair of the Investment Committee for the Investment Association. He also served on the advisory panel for the Kingman review into the FRC. In 2018 Mark won investment leader of the year in the efinancial news investment awards.

After leaving his full-time position in the asset management industry, Mark became a Senior Advisor and later a Partner at Tulchan, which was subsequently acquired by Teneo. These firms specialised in Strategy and Communications, where Mark provided guidance to clients on Shareholder and Capital Market issues. He concluded his advisory role at the end of 2024. Mark is an associate trustee of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and sits on their investment committee.
