Main responsibilities
Responsible to lead the delivery of Aviva’s investment-related Sustainability Ambitions on biodiversity, deforestation and nature. This has included conducting Aviva and Aviva Investors biodiversity and deforestation risk assessments, building respective tools for investment portfolios and engagement on deforestation and nature with high-risk sectors. She represents Aviva Investors externally on biodiversity initiatives and has presented on numerous panels, which include the Convention on Biological Diversity in Montreal. Kiran collaborates across entities including Aviva Group and Aviva Insurance, Wealth and Retirement entities stakeholders. Kiran contributes to biodiversity and nature expertise within the business, including increasing the understanding of biodiversity/nature issues.
Experience and qualifications
Before joining Aviva Investors, she worked at the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) within the Nature Economy team, where she focussed on integrating biodiversity risk within private and financial sectors. Kiran has technically led on the integration of deforestation risk and the use of nature-based solutions within the banking sector. Prior to this, she conducted research in Japan focussing on wildlife friendly farming certification and led research expeditions in Indonesia collecting tropical rainforest data for the Verified Carbon Standard.
Kiran holds a MSc in Conservation Biology from the University of Kent, Canterbury and a BSc in Biological Sciences with a Year in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham.
